This Bachmann HO Scale Silver Series 40′ Quad Hopper is based on cars used in the steam and classic-diesel eras. Quad, or 4-bay, hoppers hauled everything from coal to crushed stone and other aggregates. Later in their life, some cars were transitioned into maintenance-of-way use, further extending their usefulness. Today, examples can typically be found in museums and operating on photo freights with tourist railroads. The 40′ Quad Hopper features an injection-molded body, finely applied decoration, blackened metal wheels for operation on Code 70 and larger rail; and E-Z Mate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers.
